The First Council of Confucius Institute Held Successfully

The first meeting of the first council of Confucius Institute（CI）at UFG was held online on May 26. Gao Weijuan, President of HUCM, and Zhang Mingli, vice president of HUCM, attended the meeting. Council members from HUCM, UFG and Tianjin Foreign Studies University（TFSU） gathered online in the meeting.
The three directors of the CI congratulated and addressed the meeting respectively. Gao Weijuan said COVID-19 has brought great challenges to our CI. In the joint efforts of the cooperative universities, CI has completed the work from the Hanban to the International Foundation of Chinese Education in China；the teaching work proceeded；scientific research cooperation made a breakthrough；help on Brazil's epidemic was widely praised. She hoped that the three universities would continue to cooperate in teacher-student exchanges, teaching and scientific research, and strive to develop the CI with its own characteristics to a higher level, so as to make greater contributions to the health of the Chinese and Brazilian people.
Edward, President of UFG, said that, HUCM has sent two teachers and made fruitful work in UFG since the signing of the contract in 2019. The cooperation among the three has entered a period of rapid development despite the epidemic since 2020. In face of unprecedented difficulties and challenges, we hope that the three universities will continue to promote cooperation in the fields of education, culture, science and technology, and build the CI into a leading model around in the world.
Chen Fachun, President of TFSU, hoped the CI with its distinctive characteristics would become a tripartite platform between the two countries and let more Brazilians experience the charm of Chinese medicine culture.
The Council voted to adopt the resolution of adding one vice president and two Council members. The meeting heard the report of the Chinese director on the work of the CI in field of Chinese and TCM teaching, TCM diagnosis and treatment, scientific research cooperation, cultural experience, joint anti-epidemic effort, ect. The financial report and 2021 annual work plan of the CI, and the resolution of the Council were passed at the meeting.
As the management department of the CI, the International Office of HUCM will take the Council's affirmation as a driving force to plan and innovate seriously on building the CI into an important platform for teacher-student exchange, scientific research cooperation and cultural experience. We will strive to build the CI into an excellent level as soon as possible, and promote the internationalization of our university and the international communication of TCM .
