Hebei University of Chinese Medicine was established in 1956. Over the past 60 years, it has trained tens of thousands of outstanding talents, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It is now a university jointly built by the People's Government of Hebei Province and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, one of the key universities in Hebei Province, one of the "double first-rate" universities in Hebei Province, a doctoral degree awarding unit, a pilot university of the reform of the Outstanding Doctor (Traditional Chinese Medicine) education and training program of the Ministry of Education, and a "5+3" integrated training institution of Traditional Chinese medicine. It has the qualification of recommending excellent undergraduate graduates to pursue postgraduate study without examination.
The university has four campuses in Xingyuan, Juquan, Qizhou and Dongyuan, with 2 directly affiliated hospitals, 21 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 40 teaching hospitals, 7 community practice teaching bases, 21 pharmacy practice bases, and 20 other practice training bases, of which 5 have been approved as provincial graduate practice training bases.
The university has 12 teaching institutions including School of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, School of Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina, School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, School of Graduate Studies, School of Continuing Education, School of International Education, School of Marxism, School of Clinical Medicine, Department of Physical Education and Department of Humanities Management. It has formed a multi-level and multi-type school-running pattern of general undergraduate education, postgraduate education, international education and adult education. There are 9899 full-time students in the university, including 8717 undergraduates and 1182 postgraduate students.
The university offers 26 majors, including Chinese medicine, Clinical medicine of Integrated Chinese and Western medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, nursing, acupuncture and massage, rehabilitation therapy, Chinese medicine resources and development, medical laboratory technology, medical imaging technology, biological engineering, Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturing, Chinese medicine cultivation and identification, stomatology technology, TCM pediatrics, TCM health care, TCM rehabilitation, TCM Osteomatology, pharmacy, midwifery, applied psychology, Health Service and Management, Chinese Language International Education, public utility management, marketing, pharmaceutical engineering, Health Inspection and quarantine, covering 5 disciplines of medicine, science, engineering, management and Arts. It strengthens the construction of specialties with characteristics and advantages based on Chinese medicine, clinical medicine of integrated Chinese and Western medicine, Chinese materia medica and other traditional Chinese medicine disciplines, and pay attention to the training of understanding TCM classic theories and clinical practice ability. It has 5 national first-rate undergraduate major construction base of Chinese medicine, clinical medicine of integrated Chinese and Western medicine, Chinese material medica, nursing, acupuncture, moxibustion and tuina, 24 doctoral degree programs, 28 master degree programs.
At present, the university has 3,002 faculty and staff (including directly affiliated units), of which 161 are professors, 250 are associate professors, 233 with doctoral degree, 435 with master’s degree. There are 61 doctoral supervisors and 517 master supervisors.
The university adheres to policy of opening up and is one of the earliest universities in Hebei province to carry out international exchanges and cooperation. It has co-founded the first Confucius Institute for Chinese Medicine in Latin America with the Federal University of Goias in Brazil, and has established friendly cooperative relations with 20 universities, medical research institutions and international organizations in more than 10 countries. It has actively participated in the "Belt and Road" education action plan, and has carried out academic exchanges with the institutions from South Korea, the United States, New Zealand, Brazil and other countries. It has 3 international science and technology cooperation bases.
